What this game is
While You're Away is a very small game: no win state, no stamina, and nothing nagging you to come back. There is exactly one thing you can do — before you leave, pick one of three things to leave on the desk.
Then you can close the page. Open it again later and you will see the days it lived for you: it turned the lamp down low to save it, it finished the food, it fell asleep at the desk — or it did nothing at all and just waited.
How it lives its days
Only one thing at a time
A lamp, some food, a book — pick one and leave it on the desk. The lamp runs out, the food gets eaten, the book gets finished; then you have to come back and leave something again.
25 things it can do
Each day it does something, picked at random from 25 options. No repeats back to back, so it takes a long while to see everything.
Time runs on while the page is closed
Elapsed time keeps being simulated, up to seven days at once, and the screen tells you exactly when the next step is — no need to keep the tab open.
Monologues on days 3, 7 and 14
Every so often it says something, marked out with an orange border. These lines are not tips — they are just how its days are going.
Your save stays in your browser
Progress is kept locally in localStorage and nothing is uploaded. Fully offline: no network calls, no ads, no data collection.
